The course link above points to the two week summer course I taught using exclusively Schoology.com. Setting up a course online really required me to consider the essential content that needed to be mastered. Equally important was the research of available online resources that would aid students working exclusively from home. One of the major transitions I had was the concepts setting up an environment where the students did not need me. This approach is very different from teaching in class where I am always available to fill in the gaps, this time I have to consider all gaps and supply online assistance in anticipation of a problem(proactive). I actually learned more about teaching my content from the creation of this course online than I had in the seven years I taught the class in person. One of the major things that I learned while creating this online course is that I was using a very outdated a follow the book approach to teaching. This upcoming school year I will use Schoology.com as my primary approach to teaching, I will move more to the role of facilitator and really begin teaching students to become more independent in their use of technology.
